Shear Walls in the Field

All of the previous information is not going to help us if we do not learn to identify shear walls in the wild.  The following pages contain photos that were taken near my home on the coast.  They offer a sampling of the types of shear wall materials in use today.

An Historic Structure
This home was built near the turn of the century.  It has not been modified from its original plan.  Note the straight siding and the stacked windows.  No complex framing here.
